The wisdom teeth are the final set of adult teeth to emerge. They usually begin to grow during the late teens. Normally, these large molars would emerge behind the second set of permanent molars, however for many people there are complications. Sometimes there’s not enough room for the wisdom teeth to emerge properly, or the teeth themselves may be misaligned. When this happens they need to be removed to prevent damage to the other teeth.
